Big Times

There are some pretty exciting things happening over the course of the next 10 days or so.  Here’s a list.

*Saturday Willoughby Hills Friends Church is hosting a conference called The Beautiful Mess with Donald Miller and the Robbie Seay Band. As if this wasn’t cool enough I was invited (through my friend Brendon) to lead a breakout session at the conference and as a result I’ll get to have dinner with Donald, Robbie and the Band (even if it’s not really all that interactive I still get a free meal out of the deal and I get into the conference for free).

*Sunday 707 will be holding it’s 2nd baptism service of the year!  There will be 9 people making public declarations of faith by telling “their story” of how being in relaitonship with Jesus Christ has changed their life and then being baptized.  It’s really quite a special service to be a part of (if you’re in the neighborhood you could join us at 6.30pm and 8.30pm)

*Tuesday I’ll be traveling to Atlanta for the Q conference.  To be honest this might be the coolest conference ever assembled.  It’s all about future culture and the Gospel, the role we play and the role we COULD play.  They have invited some great Christian authors and pastors (I’m sure after I have dinner with Donald Miller on Saturday he’ll be dying to hang out again in Atlanta) but they also invited all sorts of other inovators in culture.  This should rule!  I will blog through the conference and after.

*Next Saturday night we’ve got another 707LivingRoom.  The idea behind this is to give people at 707 a place to connect to each other while enjoying some sort of art form.  This month we’ll be having a rock’n band called The Body Language and the comedy stylings of our very own Zachariah Durr.  (again… in the neighborhood?  come hang out with us around 8pm)

*Next Sunday we’ll be having  some pretty exciting (for me) announcements at 707 as well as a time to talk through hopes and dreams for the future.

All in all it’s pretty exciting times.  The following Monday I will probably fall over from exhaustion but it will be worth it I’m sure!

Link of the Day :: Ref Fights!

If you like sports you probably already know about this story.  Sunday the Mavs (next champs) played the Spurs in a pretty hot western conference show down to wrap up the season.  Somewhere in the middle of the game Tim Duncan and referee Joey Crawford exchanged words because Duncan was not pleased because he believed Crawford had missed a call.

Then this happened.

Crawford ejected Duncan from San Antonio’s loss after calling a second technical foul on the Spurs star while he was laughing on the bench.

“He looked at me and said, ‘Do you want to fight? Do you want to fight?”‘ Duncan said. “If he wants to fight, we can fight. I don’t have any problem with him, but we can do it if he wants to. I have no reason why in the middle of a game he would yell at me, ‘Do you want to fight?”‘

This kind of conduct does not sit well with the NBA especially from a Ref.

The veteran NBA referee was suspended indefinitely by commissioner David Stern for his conduct toward Tim Duncan…. Crawford was cited for “improper conduct” and “inappropriate comments made to Duncan during the game.” Stern said Crawford’s actions “failed to meet the standards of professionalism and game management we expect of NBA referees.”

I don’t know about you, but I for one think it would be great to see some Ref Fights!  Why not have a player and a ref have it out in a steal cage after the game.  It could become a fixture of the sport.  They could partner it with UFC and package it for a Pay Per View special.

Seriously, how does a grown man look at another grown man at a place of business and challenge them to a fight at work…  on national TV.

Oh…  right.
